My Cat ...... Work In Progress.....

That would be a fair trek !! :yikes:

Anyhow....no sandpaper today :mad2::mad2::mad2::mad2:

I purchased it on Tuesday lunchtime and still not here. Contacted the seller only to be advised "Royal Mail Delivery 1 - 5 working days" Nothing else in the mail. No hello. No thank you. Just the above statement!

I never knew Royal Mail were so vague in their estimations. The fact the seller didn't bother saying when he actualy SENT the items, means I have had to mail him back.
Honestly, some people are just determined to make life hard for everyone else :incazzato:

At last....sandpaper arrived which enabled me to finish the headlight. The end result isn't perfect as I need to purchase some smaller diameter cutting pads to help cut around the "boobies", but the finish is still a million times better than it was:

so.....2000 grit wet and dry:

Then 2500 grit wet and dry:

Then 3000 grit wet and dry:

Finally Meguiars PlastX:

I then finished the wheels. I got fed up of sanding them down, so attached one wheel at a time, stuck the car in first gear, let the wheel spin while I held the wet and dry paper against it :D Much easier!!
After sanding i then polished them up with a polishing attachment on my drill. Again, not 100% perfect mirror finish, but good enough for me and again, a million times better than before.

It was dark by the time I had finished so no very good pic. Also, car only just down from it's axel stands, hence the very OFF ROAD appearance. Notice I had also cut and polished the front bumper, removed the brick and attached the plate direct to the bumper for a much cleaner appearance:

Forgot I hadn't put the centre cap on when I took this piccie:

I will take some daytime pictures when i get a chance.

Overall I am very chuffed with myself. As for the car, well to show it's appreciation for all my hard work and dedication, it decided to re-introduce the electrical glitch that i thought I had fixed a few months back :incazzato: :mad2: :incazzato: :mad2:

No way I can sell the car with this problem so I am arranging to borrow my step mums car for a week or 2, so my car can be left with a highly recommended Auto electrician in Surrey.......No doubt it will cost me a bloody fortune, and to say I am gutted and "*^$$ed off is a huge understatment.

JMC123 was due to come and look at it this Saturday, but am now about to PM him to explain the problem and put back the date.....aaarrrggghhhhhhh :mad2:

Wow, those headlights look miles better, may have to have a go with mine. After you'd done them with 3000 grit, they still look 'cloudy', was it the Meguiars that cleared them up, or did they just need a good wash after the sanding?

Looking fantastic shagmonkey(y), what's the electrical glitch your car is suffering from?

Comiserations mate, I know how dear those auto electricians are, just for a diagnostic to locate the fault your looking at upwards of £40, that's before the repair.......I hope it's not too expensive mate.:(

Yes, it was the Meguiars PlastX that finishes them off. You need to apply it with a machine as doing it by hand wont work the compound enough to break it down and thus clear the plastic.

The only problem with that light looking so good, the other headlight looks like it needs a good sanding now :mad2:

SabreTooth:
The problem with the car is the fact that when I try and start her, the alarm light flashes like crazy, and wont let the engine turn. A good punch of the passenger side dashboard and the car starts first time. I have dismantled the entire dash and unplugged every plug I could find, checked all the connectors and then plugged them back in. Made no difference. the only thing I did a while ago was remove the Ignition relay from the internal fuse box.....checked it works.....and put it back in. After that, the car started first time every time with no problems. I thus thought I had solved the problem. Clearly I haven't. Since it has started playing up, I removed the same relay and even swapped it for one from my neighbors MkII Modeo......it made no difference. I have wiggled wires and plugs on the fuse board......no difference......yet one punch (sometimes a few more) of the dash and she starts straight up :mad2:

Nobody on here has ever experienced this problem before.....nobody on NECO has experienced this problem before.......nobody on the Ford Mondeo owners club has experienced this fault before. Fixing this fault is going to be like looking for a needle in a haystack i can tell :frown2: :(

Bummer, have you tried replacing the relay altogether incase it has an intermittent fault?

hi paul, sounds like a dodgy connection possibly from wiring loom in- to the back of the fuse box, have you tried removing fuse box and checking plug in points from main wiring loom, and loom itself to see all wires have a good connection, sorry if im repeating something you have tried, looking at spare fuse box here and it has 4 plugs into the back and then the plugs from the front, i would suggest some wd40 on a cloth to clean the contacts and ensure no wire from the loom is loose in the connection,

ps cracking job you are doing by the way,(y)

No worries mate.
All plugs have been removed, wires checked etc etc. Taking the car up to my dads tonight as the auto electrician reckons he might be able to look at it tomorow afternoon, or if not, Friday. Either way it needs looking at ASAP for Johns sake if nothing else. Poor bloke has been waiting a few weeks for me to finish everything so he could come and take a look / test drive / hopefully buy it.

Anyhow......to save trawling through this thread, I just wanted to see some simple before and after shots.....to cheer myself up!

What an amazing finish on that paint work. You've put so much work into it mate, it looks really good. May have to start saving and ask you to have a go at mine as you're just along the coast from me :ihih::D

Is there any way of Photoshopping the ugly SOB out of the reflection in the pictures above Paul? Its putting me off. ;)
