Being as you have a virginal, unblemished bumper, have you considered mounting the plate across the lower grille (so the lower edge of the plate sits against the upper edge of the thick horizontal part of the bottom of the grille - if that makes any sense whatsoever!)? Perhaps one of the Photoshop literate guys on here could mock something up?

An Update. Cougar Death.

Took just under four hours to get the insides out. Dash board is off but I can't get it over the steering wheel and I was missing the right bit to take it off. Pile of bits is about the size of a double bed.

I can't mate, I still need it as a rolling chassis when I take the engine out and to get underneath it etc.
