Cougar Spotting

I've owned 2 autos, a cougar and a renault safrane and both cost me biblically lol i will never own or work on one ever again 🤣
Personally I would never run a diesel, I hate the smelly dirty things and everybody I know that has them has loads of problems, turbo's blowing up and all manner of emissions problems but people love them so it's personal taste in the end, once everything is electric all cars will be automatic and eventually self drive 🤣

Lol the safrane was also a diseasal :ROFLMAO:

They'll be shiftless as far as driver controls are concerned, but only by virtue of any kind of gearbox being entirely absent.
yes the gearboxes life COULD come to an end as electric motors have instant max torque unlike combustion engines.
guess changing gear will be another dead skill eventually :ROFLMAO:

It's is rather sad I must admit, we have a whole generation that doesn't have the skills to drive a manual car now especially in America but 150 years ago steam was king and and the hoarse was queen, will people look back at the electric car with the same rose tinted glasses I think not 🤔

My opinion……
Petrol Diesel ?
I own and drive both. My 12+ year old 2.0 turbo diesel has been reliable other than DPF issues, presently they seem to be cured but I don’t doubt they’ll be back. Average fuel consumption just under 50.

I‘m also driving my 21 year old 1.8 petrol turbo TT for most of my work trips. Engine, she’s 90+K, again reliable but I’m prepared for trouble. ATM other than an engine warning light ( seems a common issue on TTS ) she’s also reliable. Fuel consumption. 30.3 feels expensive, I pretend it’s better for the environment, doubt it is though.

Both cars are manual, agreed manual box are to become history. Auto would put me off buying a Cougar or a TT for that matter. I’ve had autos in the past and it’s fine in some car types.

As to the Queen, she is hoarse, apparently a chest infection.

I agree that it'll be a cold day when I drive an auto anything, as ex trade I have driven quite a few and to me they just dont give the satisfaction of manual driving.

Can I also throw in the manual "wand" handbrake for driver engagement !

Well out of the 4 manual coogs I had 2 of them the clutch went costing a fair bit to fix. My auto has been practically trouble free the 5 years and 60ish k mile I've done in it (total 111k now). It did *appear* to have a failed box at one point.. turned out it was a gear selection thing under the thermostat which had gotten soaked, only figured it out following some digging online as I was reluctant to give up on the car. I do wonder how many old autos have been prematurely scrapped for the same issue. My manual C2 was much faster tho I must admit🤣

I have never owned an Auto, and my exprience with those has only been what happend to Wil's ones.

I've only owned manuals, and never even had to replace a clutch! Even in the case of Tiger at 180,00 miles before she died through rot.

I dunno what people are doing and it's none of my business.

I think I do have a habit of murdering clutches to be fair🤣

As no doubt you are aware Mako clutch life is dependent on how much the driver cares, or doesn’t understand.

I’ve been amazed to sit behind a car on an upward slope for several minutes with my handbrake on whilst the car in front bobs back and too as they ride the clutch.

Why ? , it’s easier to pull the handbrake on, even more so with an electric handbrake.
