Thanks for all the feedback. I am really leaning towards leaving the C2 as is, and just fitting the USA grille.

But I can't find the Wings West lip anywhere, for the front bumper. That's really what I want. It is on eBay for ?ú100 from the USA, but guess how much they charged me for postage? Guess! You'll never guess. $700!

POTN quote 6 weeks delivery time as it comes on a boat and costs ?ú265

At least someone is awake out there !!

Yes, my meaning was that if you have a car that pre-dates the changes to the road tax duty being based on emissions it is cheaper than a later one and this gap is likely to widen over time as Chancellors try to target the Chelsea Tractor brigade. We had this discussion somewhere else at around the time of the Budget and I think that the cut-off date for manufacture was some point in 2001

Both the zetec and the duratec fall into band 'f' (band 'g' only applies to manufacture dates from 2006)

Buy the C2 and leave it alone........

Much nicer interior (IMO)
Much nicer headlights (IMO)
Nothing wrong with the front bumper (IMO)

The fact that C2's are rare in my book would be good enough to leave alone.......says me....the owner of the most modified Cougar in Europe !
Are you alright paul thats a lot of praise for the Cougar2 there

Was only chating to the guy behind the desk at the local FORD parts department saying it would be easier to source parts for an Aston Martin than a Cougar2 :!:

Er wrong, it's a Cougar2 with Mercury Grill and chrome grill kit fitted to every other slat. BIG difference! Don't you go doing it, I just registered the design for copyright

Out of interest what did you do about the gaps either side of the USA grille, which the C2 headlights don't fill like the C1 do?

Buy a Cougar2 specific Mercury grill mate. Don't worry i wouldn't fit the chrome strips [and they are every slat anyway mate there are that many slats, if you meen the bumper that is. The Cougar2 grill is black crossover effect]
Similar to the standard Cougar2 grill just with a cougarhead instead of a frod badge.

Check out the pics in my garage

I already got the USA grille :) I think you'll find there are twice as many slats as are silvered - go count 'em

Matt's actually got a C2 mercury grill and therefore no gaps under the lights.
didn't i say that
I figured you ment the grill after i posted, its just there is a chrome kit fro the slats in the bumper air intake grill aswell [come up on ebay a few times]

I was referring to this Matt. He seemed to think you had a C1 Mercury grill.

I know what you ment mate  lol
I was hopeing you'd post a better pic up of the C2 grill so our freind could see the difference, mine is poor quality i'm afraid.
Hope everyone realises this is all in jest

Ah, when you said "cougar2 with a Mercury grill you want then.....like mine lol", and as I can't see your grille from your pic, I thought you had a Cougar 2 with a Mercury grille, not a Mercury 2 grille.

The v1 USA grille was the image I posted originally that you quoted. That is the grille I have and the chrome slats kit I was refering to (not the bumper grille).

Hopefully it won't look too bad even with the gaps by the lights. Expect a pic just as soon as the chrome kit arrives from the USA.

I like the v2 grille, but I think the chrome adds an extra refinement, and there's no kit or replacement I've found that will give you a chrome v2 grille... although I'm sure somebody will correct me?...

Na your right there aint as i know, its kinda like the grills fitted to the FOCUS the diamond black holes [i guess you could silver it up like the MONDEO ST-220 grill] i think less is more...

aparently you can get a chrome kit for the rear bumper too, if its a US-spec cougar2 bumper that is, this has grills at the bottom like the slats in the front bumper [obviously being US-spec the numberplate apperture is SQUARE] don't know of anyone with this bumper in the UK

Good to see someone likes the C2 as it is though, these boring C1 jobies

Yes I now love the C2, partly because it's the latest style and looks a little less dated IMHO with the clear headlights. With the Wings West lip under the front bumper, and my silver grille plans, I think it'll be the perfect balance of sophisticated sporty. SophistisportÔäó. :)
