And completely legal, got to love Germany, not bad for an old Ford Cougar, hit the limiter at 139 but with a descent obviously would have done more, but was as smooth as anything and the engine still felt it had more to give

Anyone else maxed their Cougar?

Wow! Had my first cougar to 120, and like you mine felt it plenty of torque to go higher. Impressive engine....

That on the sat nav or actual dial?

my speedo was off the scale reading 150 but obviously the sat nav is more accurate

the engine still felt it had far more to give but at 139 it just started to cut out, obviously an electronic limiter of some sort but considering out of the factory Ford only quoted 140 for a completely standard car in every way to still be able to reach that 120,000 miles on is pretty impressive

On the dial, I didn't own a sat nav at the time. I would say your 139 would probably be the most my car was actually going.

Not bad Matt, the most I have got out of mine was 115mph at 6k rpm with the imrc not working (on dyno)

I need to get her back on the dyno soon to see if anything has made a difference.

But to do it on a road, i must admit you are braver than me.... (In germany or not lol)

On my private test track, I chickened out before Tiger ran out of grunt, ("Wait - what on Earth am I doing?"). It was 135 on the satnav.

Incidentally, I had Mako up to 125 indicated a couple of times, which wasn't bad for a 4-banger.

No, no, i mustn't.......what's that?..............an audi A what?.....................and it's black!..........:angel::stop:

Given the Cougar a whole day off today to cool down from its Autobahn screaming yesterday and been driving this instead!

Never will I moan about the manuals lack of cruise control again compared to driving this, so basic, though this model had the extra wing mirror and shock a heated rear screen fitted, but that was as far as it went, a wonderful experience of back to basic motoring

I thought that all Trabants had heated rear screens so you could warm your hands while you pu..........no, I just can't go through with it. I'm not my dad yet.

Now in Prague, not a single fault to report, Cougar running beautifully, over 1000 miles from home now

If she's well-maintained, there is no reason she won't bring you home. Just ask DickL!

I am profoundly proud and jealous of what you're going. I hope you enjoy your whole trip and come home in one piece. Stay safe!

How do you double the value of a Trabant?
Fill up the tank!

How many workers does it take to build a Trabant?
Three, one to cut, one to fold and one to paste.

How do you measure the acceleration of a Trabant?
With a diary.

What's the difference between a Jehovah's Witness and a Trabant?
You can shut the door on a Jehovah's Witness.

When does a Trabant reach its top speed?
When it's being towed.

A man went into a Trabant dealership and said to the salesman: "I'd like to buy a Trabant with a two-tone color scheme please? The salesman replied: "Certainly sir, we have one with that colour scheme, plus power steering, cruise control, adjustable power seats, air conditioning, and a digital instrument panel". The man replied: "You're joking!". The dealer responded: "Well, you started it!"

When you drive a Trabant you arrive at your destination refreshed and energized with a new appreciation for the fragility and brevity of life.

Ha great jokes! Anyone else on here ever driven one?

It was certainly an experience, the noise was just biblical but wasn't accompanied by any form of noticeable acceleration, worst worst car I've ever driven by a long way

and the door joke is absolutely spot on, I was quite sure I'd shut it, but half way round the Brandenburg gate a man in a Mercedes started waving at me because the door was coming open even though it was definitely shut at the start of the journey

Guilty!
I was selling my last 1.6 Laser Capri and a guy poled up driving a Trabant . My first question to him was, "have you driven anything else?" whilst nodding towards the moggy. He hadn't, so i was a tad concerned he might kill himself in the Capri. I took the safe option and took him a ride round rather than trusting him to drive. The drive frightened him a bit so he didn't buy it saying he's probably best to stick with his Trabant. I asked if i could take it for a run as i'd never driven one before and he agreed. WOW what a car. I took it up my fave test road, well, i actually took it half a mile up that road and U turned at a field cutting and returned home. The acceleration on that thing was terrifying:eek:. You sit with your foot to the floor waiting..............waiting and............waiting and.........................................................
