I've spent some time thinking about it because I think I at least owe you that. And what I've discovered is this...
Although the huge, skeletal figures look like they should be the focus of the picture, they're not. They're scenery. Dead rock, like the cliffs they stand against.
Instead, the focus should be the burning torch that the little guy is carrying. He's a brave explorer, marching through an avenue of ancient death. And he's not scared; dude's walking straight down the middle of that thing. Not hugging the walls.
He needs the light to find his way, sure. But he's determined and he's not going to give up; not after he's come so far. The light gives him the ability to do so.
Taken as a metaphor, you can find religion, love, or even just courage in that light.
Or maybe it's just a cool painting, I dunno because I'm a crappy art critic.
He's probably using the torch app on his connected device whilst doing a bit of micro-blogging.

They only look at their phone screens or the pavement an inch in front of their shoes. Especially when crossing the road.
